What if joy wasn’t the result of success — but its foundation? Last October, Victor Pacheco and I attended the Sages & Scientists Mallorca Experience, beautifully hosted by The Chopra Foundation and Sadhana Works.
Some experiences unfold over time. This one did just that. The theme that keeps coming back is Sustainable Success.
The external world offers so little certainty and maybe it never truly did. People are changing countries, careers, entire identities. Success, as we once defined it, no longer carries the same meaning. In fact, the traditional definition, rooted in material achievements often works against us. The concept of success is evolving and so is our relationship to it.
This question: what does success really mean? — has become part of my daily rhythm, especially through my work with Capacity, supporting people in career transition.
In Mallorca, I met many extraordinary and accomplished people who shared their life journeys with honesty. I heard joy described not as something you earn at the end, but as something that must be present from the start. Joy as the foundation, and as the compass that guides your way.
Because what’s the point of achieving it all, if there’s no sense of purpose, you feel disconnected and not even enjoying the ride?
So maybe how matters more than what we reach. Maybe the real foundation isn’t external — it’s internal. And maybe, when we lead from that place, the most beautiful “what” arrives in ways we could never have planned.
